  • Would you take this part time weekend teleradiology position?

    1099 weekend position. Only ED/IP neuroradiology cases. $38/RVU. 3 weekend days/month minimum commitment. 9 hr am and evening shifts.

    Is the rate too low for weekend work?

    yes,  too low.    plus what if the volume is 10 cases in a 9 hr shift??   or 300??

      There is no minimum case quota but I was told that they read around 60 cases/shift.

      They cover medmal with tail coverage. No minimum TAT.

      Its $38/wRVU

      The majority of the cases are ED cases.

      What is a reasonable rate?

        Thats not bad all things considered. Unfortunately off hours and night work in rads doesn’t command the premium it should.

          I’d certainly take $2300 to read 60 ER heads/faces/cspines, which should take you about 2 hours of actual work. Would be great as a side job, especially if there’s no production quota or TAT requirements, just bang out some cases while you’re doing something else. Too little money for a main gig though but it seems pretty chill and pays decently well assuming the workflow is efficient.

            The rub is going to be whether the ER and the hospitalists have TAT expectations that are not documented in this offer. If you can go for breakfast, work out or spend some 1:1 with your SO and let the list build without irritated texts from the ‘AD’, this can be a good way to make some extra.

              This is ED work. They will expect relatively quick TAT. You are stuck in the chair for the shift.

                Sounds like the comp is “week day day shift” level but it has to be done on the weekend.
                 
                To do this gig on a saturday or sunday instead of 9-5 I would add a premium of about $100-150/hr

                    Agree with most of the comments above, though I would emphasize $38/wRVU all neuro cross sectional (mostly ED) is actually quite good. And much better than any random $38/wRVU job.

                    On the negative side, certainly evening/weekend work and minimal benefits isnt good. Perhaps that overrides the pay.

                    But getting that rate without doing X-rays, other poorly paid imaging studies, fluoro, and procedures etc is a solid rate and effectively well above $38/wRVU.

                      Signing off DEXAs , templated negative DVT studies and normal ER MSK films is some of the highest wRVU/hr work we can do. Also, I find the mix more RVU efficient than a day of strictly Neuro MRI (it’s like filling a dump truck with crushed rock including fines instead of coarse washed rip-rap).

                      Depends on the rad for sure, but I feel pretty strongly that a job that’s only neuro (and mostly ER) is going to bump up the “effective $/wRVU” rate, not bring it down. Compared to a standard mixed job at least. 
                       
                      Certainly there are other wRVU efficient non neuro studies so you miss out on, but if you average it all out, lots of ER neuro stuff is better than average for the daily wRVU total.

                      ER neuro is probably one of the highest wRVU/effort gigs you can get.

    Full professional RVU or ‘work RVU’*?
    Who pays medmal ?
    What is the TAT requirement ?

    If they require a set number of hours of availability, I would ask for a per-shift minimum.

    * CT head wo is 0.85 wRVU but 1.16 RVU.

        Depends on the ED/IP mix. $38/RVU for ED neuro cases is an excellent deal, for complex inpatients, maybe not so much.
