  • Work related injury

Have any of you every experienced any work related injury? We obviously don’t have the same risk of work related injury relative to blue collar jobs, but I think that our risk for “repetitive stress injury” is significant. I’m an early-career radiologist and I’m already noticing joint pain, back pain, carpal tunnel, etc. after a long shift. I’ve tried to take preventative measures, but I often forget/get lazy with adhering to ergonomic measures during a busy shift.

What steps do you take to prevent repetitive stress injury?

I’ve been fortunate in that carpal tunnel has never been an issue for me.

About 10 years ago, I noticed thumb pain related to using the mic button.  Switched to a headset at that point and issue resolved.  Many threads on AM about headsets or mic-alternatives for dictation.  My voice used to be hoarse at the end of a workday til I started using dictation templates.  YMMV.  Do some of your own research on healthy ergonomics for seating, posture, eye-monitor distance, etc.

If you’re having issues, I’d say to bring those up with your personal physician at every visit to document when the issue(s) started, severity, etc.  Will be useful in the event you decide to file a disability claim.
