  • Unexpected 2021 MSK Fellowship open at American Institute for Radiologic Pathology (AIRP)

    The Musculoskeletal Fellow positions are designed to provide additional experience for radiologists who have completed their training and an interest in academic radiology is encouraged. Educational, clinical and research activities are emphasized here at the AIRP.  The Musculoskeletal Fellow has the opportunity to review numerous correlated cases submitted to the AIRP by residents attending the Radiologic Pathology Courses. The study of the pathologic basis of abnormal radiologic images is enhanced through review of case material, didactic lectures, and intramural conferences in the AIRP.  The length of AIRP fellow is one year. Once completed by AIRP Fellows, the AIRP will award a certificate of completion stating AIRP Fellow completed one year of training specializing in Musculoskeletal imaging. 
     
    As a Musculoskeletal Fellow, your duties will span every aspect of the departmental and institutional mission.  Additional responsibilities include:
     
    The Musculoskeletal Fellow receives approximately 1,500 cases each year. Fellows are responsible to assist in reviewing cases submitted to their section.
     
    Fellows are responsible for limited case management duties and for supporting all procedures implemented by the Quality Assurance program at the AIRP.
     
    Fellows participate in Clinical Rotations and all aspects of patient care at local institutions Rotation Sites:
     
    American Institute for Radiologic Pathology: Review AIRP class cases as unknowns
     
    Joint Pathology Center: RadPath Case Conferences
     
    Walter Reed National Military Medical Center: High volume sports medicine imaging and diagnostic interpretation Washington Hospital Center: Regional Center of Excellence for Orthopedic Oncology, high volume musculoskeletal biopsies; Rheumatology and Arthroscopy conferences
     
    University of Virginia (1 week rotation): Special Musculoskeletal Intervention/ Spine and Sports Medicine Imaging. Access to Customized and Dynamic Musculoskeletal Digital Library: Designed for on-demand access via Web, iPad, iPhone, Android, Desktop devices.
     
    Research Projects, Multiple Collaborating Institutions
     
    State-of-the art Computing Infrastructure
     
    Primary Rotation Sites all located on or near Washington DC Metro Lines
     
    * The time frame for this fellowship is July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022
     
    Requirements:
     
    The applicant must have completed Medical School Education and obtained the degree of Doctor of Medicine.
     
    The applicant must have completed or be enrolled in a U.S.-based and Accredited Diagnostic Radiology Residency training program.
     
    Strong interest in pursuing an academic career and a research background
     
    The applicant must be a U.S. Citizen (but not a dual citizen). [/style]This requirement is in place to ensure that accepted fellowship applicant(s) will be able work clinically at one of our main clinical sites, which is located at a Military Hospital (Walter Reed).
