On no less than recommendation from Jeff Sessions but I’m not sure Comey didn’t deserve to go.

I don’t think this gets the Russia stinknoff trump though. He’d have to fire the whole FBI.

Newsweek had an article about this last week.

Lots of suggestions that this is basically part of a cover up. Seeing reporters on twitter sending out quotes from unnamed FBI sources that they suspect this is move 1 in installing someone who will shutdown the Russia investigation.

Just a thought but I wonder if Comey will bury any bodies on the way out.

Jeff Sessions “I did not have communications with the Russians.” How come he’s not also relieved of his job as Attorney General for lying under oath to Congress?

Also he supposedly recused himself because he lied about talking to the Russians.

How come he’s making recommendations on the head of the Russian investigation?

Comey is still set to speak tonight in LA and also Thursday in front of the congressional committee. Should be interesting few days. Comey’s #2 also has some stink of his own. His wife had something going on during a senate run where they were associated with taking money from HRC flunkie Terry McAwful.

This is hardly surprising as Comey was leading the investigation into the President & his Administration’s contacts with the Russians during the election and Trump didn’t like where the investigation is going, namely right in his lap.

So what Stooge will Trump/Sessions appoint now to ensure the investigation is shut down?

I’ll go with the Krauthammer view:

[link=http://insider.foxnews.com/2017/05/09/james-comey-fired-charles-krauthammer-trump-clinton-comments-july]Krauthammer: ‘Implausible’ That Comey Was Fired Over Clinton Comments Last Year[/link]

“According to the letter by the deputy attorney general [Rod Rosenstein], this is about something that occurred on July 5. So we start out with something that is highly implausible.

If this was so offensive to the Trump administration then what you should have done is, in the transition, spoken with Comey and said ‘We’re going to let you go.’  But to fire him summarily with no warning in the middle of May because of something that happened in July is almost inexplicable.

Do we really believe that Donald Trump, after all these months, decided suddenly to fire this guy because he damaged Hillary back in July? … Another implausible conjecture.

I suspect where this is going to go is to that clause”

    {In which Trump in the dismissal letter says “While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation” }

I agree, Charles.  That is exactly where this is going to g.

Krauthammer’s argument is too complicated for the Trumpists to understand.

Like Nixon’s firing of Cox to stop the investigation, I think Trump might find he just made things worse as even a few Republicans are talking about an independent investigation and others will feel pressure to support the same.

Your arguments are irrelevant. I thought Comey should have been fired long ago for his actions. It’s not the recommendation to fire Comey that matters or who made the recommendation(s), it’s Trump’s actions and timing and reasons that matter. Only Trump. Specifically Trump strongly alludes to less than honorable reasons for firing Comey by writing that Comey allegedly told Trump 3x Trump was not under investigation.

At the very minimum Trump’s pique and firing for that reason is infantile childish, at the worst it’s a cover-up attempt.

He was confirmed by so many Senate Democrats because he said he would give strong consideration to appointing an independent counsel.  Now his memo is being used as the cover for Comey’s dismissal.

Not quite sure what to make of the firing (underlying conspiracy regarding Russia investigation versus poor random decision making and poor timing) but if its conspiracy theory, then is Rubenstein in on it?…Regardless, it’s pretty awful that Comey learning of his firing real time from TV…on a side note until recently I did not know that Krauthammer is a quadriplegic

Liberals…. Not always right, but never wrong. You always have the answer, but never a explanation on how you arrived to your conclusion. When will you own up to your own words and actions and stop blaming everything on something else. I have yet to read anything regarding ownership of your parties mistakes. If shows that emotions are far more important than facts. That’s is why I say, you guys are not the  Democrats of Kennedy, Johnson, FDR that my parents loved and rasied me up on. Rather you are the Democrats of blame and false statements which are not far from the radical Dixiecrats like Wallace was. You promote hatred and reduced freedoms because on your own insecurity of not taking responsibility for your actions.

What’s your question? Do you have a question?

And BTW, today’s Dixiecrats are called Republicans, they are doing the double-speak of today.

And since you list FDR & JFK (& RFK) and LBJ (ALL Liberals BTW), what exactly do you support of their policies and what Republicans today support their policies? I think you have a major disconnect and misunderstanding about what they stood for and what your Party stands for.

Look up what RFK meant when he said:

I don’t have to have a question when reality is spoken. Nice spin on calling the GOP the new Dixiecrats. How daffy are you Frumi? you’ve debated better in the past. You list several very Liberal Presidents as admirable but then spit on Liberals. I ask what policies of them do you support? What policies by them are no longer supported by Liberals? What policies by them are supported by today’s Republicans and by Trump?

And what Liberals are doing their Wallace imitation? About race? Or government? What specifically?

As for not following RFK’s quote, we have several examples of proving you dead wrong.

                      Social Security
                      Medicare/Medicaid
                      War on Poverty
                      Voting Rights
                      Civil Rights
Wages, minimum wages, inequality & jobs
Progressive tax policies to help the middle class and poor
                      Universal Health Care
                      Good government

All policies done by Liberals and opposed to this day by Republicans and Conservatives.

Which of the above short list is your Party in favor? Or Trump?

Should be easy if what you claim is true.

Well spoken Cuda – talk out of both sides of their mouths. The TV pundits like Todd, Matthews, Tapper, Anderson, Scarborough (married twice now engaged to his co-host after she divorced her husband) etc politicians such as Schummer, Pelosi,  and now the Vietnam liar Dick Bluementhal were all over Comey in July.  The new non-partisan Assistant AG only on job two weeks investigated and found cause. Now they all start spinning their conspiracy theories  and suddenly they are outraged. Even the false hope coronated Queen  Hillary last week on stage saying she takes the blame for the loss then proceeds to blame Comey and Wikileaks.

Meanwhile her  “sloppy no security on his email despite being warned campaign manager” John Podesta  tweeted how Comey made him nauseous after his recent testimoney suddenly has concern over the firing.

As someone else posted it is very entertaining to watch these liberal and TV pundits make fools of themselves.

I think McCain is a joke, but the fact that you parrot a line from an SNL skit and believe it to be truth demonstrates what a clown you are, and why no rational person can take you seriously.

Back at work Monday morning in Washington, Trump told Vice President Pence and several senior aides Reince Priebus, Stephen K. Bannon and Donald McGahn, among others that he was ready to move on Comey. First, though, he wanted to talk with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, his trusted confidant, and Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein, to whom Comey reported directly. Trump summoned the two of them to the White House for a meeting, according to a person close to the White House.

The president already had decided to fire Comey, according to this person. But in the meeting, several White House officials said Trump gave Sessions and Rosenstein a directive: to explain in writing the case against Comey.

The pair quickly fulfilled the bosss orders, and the next day Trump fired Comey a breathtaking move that thrust a White House already accustomed to chaos into a new level of tumult, one that has legal as well as political consequences.

Rosenstein threatened to resign after the narrative emerging from the White House on Tuesday evening cast him as a prime mover of the decision to fire Comey and that the president acted only on his recommendation, said the person close to the White House, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

Rosenstein just got his reputation tarnished and got a new title, Deputy Tool. Either his head’s not on straight by failing to note that firing Comey shortly after Comey requested more funds for the Russia interference and pollution investigation has extremely poor optics at best or he’s “just following orders” and wrote up a justification to fire Comey as ordered regardless of the ethics involved. When Cox was fired AG Richardson had the spine and moral authority to resign instead of being a tool.

No such courage in this Administration.

The first problem with this is that Rosenstein, in his memo, [link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/05/09/the-justice-departments-case-against-james-comey-annotated/?ere&utm_term=.d81170118359]didn’t specifically advocate for Comey’s firing[/link] at all. He merely said Comey had damaged confidence in law enforcement with his actions, and he left it there. Trump clearly had a choice, because nobody else made it.

And more recent statements from the White House make clear that Trump actually [i]asked[/i] Rosenstein to write the memo and that he had been thinking about firing Comey for months even as far back as Election Day.

He asked them for their recommendation based on the conversation that they had on Monday, White House deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders said Wednesday. He asked them to put that recommendation in writing. But they came to him on his own. And again, the president had lost confidence in Comey from the day he was elected.

In an interview Thursday on ABC’s Good Morning America, Sanders again scaled back Spicer’s comments, saying Rosenstein’s memo wasn’t at the direction, necessarily of Trump.

            [i][i]Necessarily?[/i][/i]
            [i]
            [/i]
Finally, the White House released a timeline late Wednesday saying: After watching Director Comeys testimony last Wednesday, the president was strongly inclined to remove him.

That’s a far cry from the tune Spicer was singing Tuesday night.

Comey infuriated Trump with refusal to preview Senate testimony[/url][/h1]

The anger behind Donald Trumps firing of FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday had been building for months, but a turning point came when Comey refused to preview for top Trump aides his planned testimony to a Senate panel.

Trump, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had wanted a heads-up from Comey about what he would say at a May 3 hearing When Comey refused, Trump and his aides considered that an act of insubordination and it was one of the catalysts to Trumps decision this week to fire the FBI director.

In the weeks before President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, a federal investigation into potential collusion between Trump associates and the Russian government was heating up, as Mr. Comey became increasingly occupied with the probe.

Mr. Comey started receiving daily instead of weekly updates on the investigation, beginning at least three weeks ago, according to people with knowledge of the matter and the progress of the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe. Mr. Comey was concerned by information showing possible evidence of collusion, according to these people.

And if he did you would hallucinate another conspiracy theory on how Trump forced him to do it to crush some local drug investigation in Baltimore.

Trump should have fired Comey on Jan 21st. The dems would have been happy-happy and a great era of bipartisanship would have ensued.

A lot of Republicans and Republican pundits (Krauthammer, et al) are hallucinating too, so I’m definitely not alone.

(Peter Wehner, a senior fellow at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, served in the previous three Republican administrations and is a contributing opinion writer.)

What happened on Tuesday is unprecedented, a word I dont use lightly. Never in our history has the president of the United States fired the director of the F.B.I. while the presidents associates and campaign aides were under investigation by the F.B.I. (Richard Nixons firing of Archibald Cox involved dismissing a special prosecutor, not an F.B.I. director.)

A powerful, independent person Mr. Trump did not appoint and whose investigation he clearly feared has been summarily fired. Given his volatility and vindictiveness, his Nietzschean ethic and his overpowering narcissism, this is exactly what one would expect of Mr. Trump.

[b]The Republicans who have so far stood in lock step with Mr. Trump, defending him at every turn, need to ask themselves whether they want to continue to be complicit in this institutional assault. By now it should be clear to them that having Donald Trumps back will cost them their integrity.[/b]

Its rare that any single person has to bear as much responsibility for safeguarding American democracy as you find yourself carrying now. Even before President Trumps shocking decision on Tuesday to [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/09/us/politics/james-comey-fired-fbi.html]fire the F.B.I. director, James Comey[/link], a dark cloud of suspicion surrounded this president, and the very integrity of the electoral process that put him in office. At this fraught moment you find yourself, improbably, to be the person with the most authority to dispel that cloud and restore Americans confidence in their government. We sympathize; thats a lot of pressure.

Given the sterling reputation you brought into this post including a 27-year career in the Justice Department under five administrations, and the distinction of being the longest-serving United States attorney in history you no doubt feel a particular anguish, and obligation to act. As the author of [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/09/us/politics/comey-fbi-memo-rod-rosenstein.html]the memo[/link] that the president cited in firing Mr. Comey, you are now deeply implicated in that decision.

It was a solid brief; Mr. Comeys misjudgments in his handling of the F.B.I. investigation of Hillary Clintons private email server were indeed serious. Yet you must know that these fair criticisms were mere pretext for Mr. Trump, who dumped Mr. Comey [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/10/us/politics/comey-russia-investigation-fbi.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=span-ab-top-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news]just as he was seeking more resources[/link] to investigate ties between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

You must also know that in ordering you to write the memo, Mr. Trump [link=http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2017/05/rod_rosenstein_is_being_used.html]exploited the integrity[/link] you have earned over nearly three decades in public service, spending down your credibility as selfishly as he has spent other peoples money throughout his business career. We can only hope that your lack of an explicit recommendation to fire Mr. Comey reflects your own refusal to go as far as the president wanted you to.

In any case, the memo is yours, and that has compromised your ability to oversee any investigations into Russian meddling. But after Attorney General Jeff Sessions [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/02/us/politics/jeff-sessions-russia-trump-investigation-democrats.html?_r=0]recused himself[/link] from these matters, because of his own contacts during the campaign with the Russians, the power to launch a truly credible investigation has fallen to you, and you alone.

[b]You have one choice: Appoint a special counsel who is independent of both the department and the White House.[/b] No one else would have the standing to assure the public it is getting the truth. While a handful of Republican senators and representatives expressed concern at Mr. Comeys firing, there is as yet no sign that the congressional investigations into Russian interference will be properly staffed or competently run. And Americans can have little faith that the Justice Department, or an F.B.I. run by Mr. Trumps handpicked replacement, will get to the bottom of whether and how Russia helped steal the presidency for Mr. Trump.

No moral courage in the Administration it seems. Gotta CYA and save their jobs.

          [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/10/opinion/rod-rosenstein-comey-firing.html]https://www.nytimes.com/2…tein-comey-firing.html[/link]

Now Rosensteins reputation is permanently damaged, as it deserves to be. In that damage is a lesson for other subordinates and allies of Trump.

Rosensteins moral test arrived after just a couple of weeks on the job. He failed it, evidently without putting up much of a struggle.

He was willing to be exactly the mouthpiece Trump needed, as Slates [link=http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2017/05/rod_rosenstein_is_being_used.html]Leon Neyfakh[/link] put it. Rosenstein wrote [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/09/us/politics/comey-fbi-memo-rod-rosenstein.html]a memo[/link] that claimed James Comey, the former F.B.I. director, was fired for his handling of the Hillary Clinton inquiry that Trump and Sessions had once [link=https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/05/what-was-the-real-reason-for-trump-firing-james-comey/526080/]praised[/link] fulsomely. And Rosenstein, who was supervising the probe into the Trump campaigns Russian ties, wrote the memo only a few days after Comey had come to him and requested more money for it, [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/10/us/politics/comey-russia-investigation-fbi.html]The Times reported[/link].

Rosenstein has also enabled Sessions to violate his own recusal from that Russia investigation. Throughout the rushed process of firing Comey and looking for his replacement, Sessions has remained central as if the Russia inquiry and Comeys status were separate issues. The notion that Rosenstein is overseeing that investigation has become laughable.

But Rosensteins abandonment of the basic principles of ethical government should remind everyone of the risks of joining Team Trump. Once you do, avoiding Trumpian behavior becomes very hard. Adopting it starts to seem normal, even honorable.

I heard that this was to get the russian governments ok to recruit Alexander Bortnikov across the pond. Trump hires only the best, and sometimes you have to go abroad to find talent. They are still talking about minor issues like salary and his request to get absolute immunity from US laws.
I heard that from a source close to the State Department.

McCabe would go on to make several assertions that might irk Trump. He forcefully defended his former boss who Trump had said was not doing a good job declaring that working with Comey was the greatest privilege and honor of my professional life. He said that his view was widely shared in the agency.

The vast majority of FBI employees enjoyed a deep and positive connection to Director Comey, McCabe said.

McCabe also rebutted White House officials attempts to minimize the Russia probe declaring it a highly significant investigation that had not and would not be deterred.

Simply put, sir, you cannot stop the men and women of the FBI from doing the right thing, protecting the American people and upholding the Constitution, he said in response to a question from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.).

McCabe declined to comment on Trumps assertion that Comey, while FBI director, had told him three times that he was not under investigation.

Trump hires only the best, and sometimes you have to go abroad to find talent. They are still talking about minor issues like salary and his request to get absolute immunity from US laws.
I heard that from a source close to the State Department.

You write sarcastically as though I made up the above.  However, a quick Google search will reveal that this is indeed true. Read it and weep. Very sad.  You know how to Google, but are scared to do it, aren’t you? Afraid of the truth, hmmm?

A white house photographer and a photographer from the russian government were allowed to take pictures. TASS is part of the kremlin and not ‘the russian press’.

Very convenient to dismiss anyone who posts in disagreement with your political stance as a sock puppet of one of the people on this very small forum.  There is a whole world out there of people who are not one of the people on this forum who do not agree with you.

                      Fw,

Another thing is, you state that the Kremlin was allowed into the WH to take pictures.  Same point being made here, which is that while Trump banned the US press from his meeting with the Kremlin, he allowed Kremlin cameras into the Oval Office.  That is a security risk.

In fact, Trump himself and his cronies are a security risk to our country.

You write as though the Kremlin and their press are separate and independent.  Please enlighten us.

Not anyone. Just You or anyone else who falls into the same pattern of posting whatever garbage the huffpo serves up as the gospel 30 minutes later.

You totally sidestepped my reply to the initial points you raised when you accused me of just being a sock puppet.  Very convenient. How about addressing the following

You protest state that it was the Kremlin, as opposed to the Russian press, that Trump allowed into the WH to take pictures. To most people this is the same as allowing the Russian press into the WH.  While Trump banned the US press from his meeting with the Kremlin, he allowed Kremlin cameras into the Oval Office.  That is simultaneously undercutting one to fthe cornerstones of our democracy, the First Amendment, and an inexcusable security risk.

The Kremlin are SPIES, for goodness sakes.

If Hillary had done this, what would you have said?

Trump himself and his cronies are a security risk to our country. Anybody who doesn’t admit to this doesn’t care about democracy or hasn’t thought about it honestly.

The other point you should address in is that you write as though the Kremlin and their press are separate and independent.  Please enlighten us.

There was also a whitehouse photographer. Is he a security risk to the russian foreign minister ?

You are lacking a coherent argument.

You are claiming that I said the opposite of what I actually said. TASS and the Kremlin are one and the same. To say that TASS and the russian government are separte would be similar to a claim that the PBGC and the US government are separate entities.

This 8th grader techique of insisting that someone said the opposite of what they actually said is something the SNL/Fruminous/Thor troll frequently does which further points to you being a sock puppet.

    Michael Bloomberg opinion

    [url=https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-05-10/after-comey-justice-must-be-served]
After Comey, Justice Must Be Served : Congress needs to get serious about holding the president accountable. [/url]

When an elected executive fires the lead investigator in the middle of a probe into his or her activities, the implications cannot be ignored. That is especially true when the decision appears to have been reverse-engineered, as seems to be the case here, with the White House recently directing the Justice Department to produce a memo providing a rationale for the firing.

To dump Comey for his handling of the Russia probe — which Trump mentioned dismissively in his letter announcing the firing — would be a grave obstruction of justice. In any event, it is likely to obstruct whatever is left of Trumps legislative agenda. Comprehensive tax reform just got an awful lot harder, as did nearly every other challenge facing the nation, both foreign and domestic: infrastructure, health care, immigration, trade and others.

{I}ts time for Congress to get serious about performing its constitutional duties. It has two immediate responsibilities here. First, the Senate must insist that Trump replace Comey with an independent and experienced new director, one who will commit to completing any investigations into the president now underway. No cranks, cronies or close relatives. Encouragingly, several Republican senators, including Richard Burr of North Carolina and Bob Corker of Tennessee, have indicated that they understand this.

Next, Congress must appoint an [link=https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-02-17/investigate-trump-s-russia-ties]independent commission[/link] to investigate Russias interference with the election and any role Trump or his associates played in it. Americans shouldnt be left to wonder. Such a panel, modeled on the Sept. 11 Commission, should be empowered to access classified information, hold open hearings and air its findings publicly. With the FBI potentially coming under the control of a White House ally, this will only become more urgent.

Firing Comey without recognizing the obvious conflict-of-interest inherent in the decision reflects Trumps [i]modus operandi:[/i] refusing to release his tax returns, refusing to sufficiently distance himself from his business interests, refusing to rein in family members who are profiting from the Trump name and connections. When elected officials refuse to be bound by the ethical practices and norms that we have come to expect of them, its up to the public — and their representatives — to hold them accountable.

    This is only the beginning.

Acting FBI head contradicts White House: Comey had broad support in FBI[/link]

Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe on Thursday directly contradicted a claim by the White House that the rank and file at the FBI had lost faith in recently-fired Director James Comey.

“Director Comey enjoyed broad support within the FBI and still does to this day,” McCabe told the Senate Intelligence Committee, calling it the “greatest privilege” of his professional career to work with Comey.

“I can confidently tell you that the vast majority of [FBI] employees enjoyed a deep and positive connection to Director Comey, he added, calling it not accurate to say otherwise.
