• Tommy Tuberville, Alabama Senator, former football coach.

A pair of stories putting Tuberville in the news –

First –

The Marine Corps Commandant retired today and was unable to pass the flag onto a successor because of Tuberville:
[link=https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redirect-to/?redirect=https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FAVindman%2Fstatus%2F1678517149344706564]https://twitter.com/AVindman/status/1678517149344706564[/link]

Tuberville has a hold on all Biden military appointments because of the “woke” military policies and allowing time off for service members to seek abortion services if the state in which they are posted has a ban in place.

Second, Tuberville continues to defend proudly calling himself a “white nationalist”

this is why the GOP loves him

Tuberville: My opinion of a white nationalist.. its an American. If that white nationalist is a racist, Im totally against them.

Collins: White nationalist is racist

Tuberville: Thats your opinion

COLLINS: A White nationalist is someone who believes that the White race is superior to other races.

TUBERVILLE: Well, thats some peoples opinion.

Im not sure exactly what he was trying to say there. But I would just say theres no place for white nationalism in our party.
White House Relishes Matchup Against Tuberville
[link=https://www.politico.com/news/2023/07/12/biden-versus-tommy-tuberville-fundraising-00105786]Politico[/link]: Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), a first-term Republican and former college football coach, has earned a steady spot in Bidens fundraising pitches, social media and official speeches. While its unusual for a junior senator to draw such ire, the reality this summer is Tubervilles one-man notoriety show has become a Washington must-watch.

Tuberville is single-handedly blocking military promotions over the Pentagons policy to pay expenses for women in the military who must travel for abortion care. Hes leaving fellow senators agog at his remarks on white nationalism, which he at times refused to explicitly condemn. And then theres his praise for federal infrastructure money even though he voted against the bill that approved it.

Its all drawing lots of attention from the president.

It underscores how Democrats think they can benefit politically from Tubervilles unprecedented blockade, which has effectively frozen promotions for some 250 military officers.

Tommy Tuberville Wouldnt Take Defense Secretarys Call
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin attempted to set up a call with Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) today, but the senators office declined, saying he did not have time for a call today or this weekend, [link=https://twitter.com/kaitlancollins/status/1679536842499055635?s=20]CNN[/link] reports.
Tuberville has complained that Austin has not tried to reach him about his hold on military nominations in protest of the Pentagons abortion policy.

She’ll be waiting a while …. Senator Tuberville is still blocking dozens of high ranking officer promotions/ appointment due to the military being “woke”

The military has failed everything since ’91 and keeps getting more funding with more failing upward promotions.  Oh and no one wants to join unless you’re a asexual genderless blue alien.

Biden escalates clash with Tuberville over military vacancies

Biden, who has often cited Republicans outside the congressional leadership as emblematic of what he calls their partys radicalism, warned in harsher tones and with more specificity this week that Tuberville is undermining the servicemen and women who are putting their lives at risk.

Something dangerous is happening, Biden said Thursday night, speaking at the Truman Civil Rights Symposium. The Republican Party used to always support the military, but today, they are undermining the military. The senior senator from Alabama, who claims to support our troops, is now blocking more than 300 military [nominations] with his extreme political agenda.

Tens of thousands of Americas daughters and sons are deployed around the world tonight keeping us safe from immense national security challenges. But the senator from Alabama is not, Biden said. For the first time in more than 100 years, we dont have a sitting confirmed commandant of the Marine Corps.

Senators have many legislative and oversight tools to show their opposition to a specific policy. They are free to introduce legislation, gather support for that legislation and pass it. But placing a blanket hold on all general and flag officer nominees, who as apolitical officials have traditionally been exempt from the hold process, is unfair to these military leaders and their families.

And it is putting our national security at risk.
….
Three of our five military branches the Army, Navy and Marine Corps have no Senate-confirmed service chief in place. Instead, these jobs and dozens of others across the force are being performed by acting officials without the full range of legal authorities necessary to make the decisions that will sustain the United States military edge.
