Let me translate. This is a Chrisitan nation. Things in texbooks that do not put Chirstianity in a positive light will be banned. Texbooks that in any way mitigage the destructive force of Islam, or, worse yet, actually put islam in a positive light, (explicity stated or implied/inferred) will be banned.

My take on this…..im all for keeping religion out of school textbooks in terms of didactics. however there are certain things in history that actually happened. those need to be in history books. if they make a religion or a group of people look bad….thats ok.

What is wrong with Texas?  No state taxes, protection of personal and property freedoms, contracted government, a state legislature that doesnt meet enough to enact confiscatory and obstructionist legislation, a homestead act, strong criminal penalties, low cost of living, a unique history, and strong tort reform (that has directly led to a 25 % decrease in medical expenses). I doubt a person of industry who isnt megarich would choose a tax laden trap like California building a 600 million dollar district high school with wood fired pizza furnaces, 10-15% highest tax ‘penalty’ bracket, paying small time public employees 500 K annually, de facto state shut down for non-American holidays, drugs in vending machines, a neutered approach to law enforcement and criminal penalties, and multitude of crazy laws such as condemning other states legal processes. I dont know of a single person whose values were inculcated from a standard textbook of history. You are screaming about small potatoes here.

What on earth are you ranting about. Im referring to the state’s attempts at book banning. they’ve done it before, hence at it again. these things you are discussing are irrelevant to the discussion….but if you want to go there, i dont see how book banning is in line with these other things you are discussing….and i dont see how having religion in school is in line with them either.

Please dont be sanctimonious here. Liberals have been in the forefront of banning educational material from dissemination.  Left wing speech codes are an infamous core of the political correct movement. After all, there was a famous Dean of the Harvard School of Law, a lady named Elena Kagan, who argued in two separate supreme court cases to ban political pamphlets and also the military from campus because their ideas offend some gays.  In many liberal states and inner cities there has been a continual school ban of Uncle Tom’s Cabin and Huckleberry Finn by stupid and lazy administrators who have no regard for the literary history of this country.  Likewise, Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice has been banned in the past because Shylock is considered offensive.  Any mention of the bible, the most read book on the planet, in school, even as a historic text, comes under micro-scruntiny from left wingers determined to censor any mention of God.  These are a lot more dangerous than some low-level grousing performed during the elected duties of Texas officials to discuss/debate the merits of textbook content that you are obsessing over likely out of anti-christian bigotry.

Also, Muslim extremists have been responsible for recent incidents of censorship with Salman Rushtie besides the cartoon bans.

” likely out of anti-christian bigotry. ”

ok. nice leap. are you related to carl lewis? find it funny that you are justifying book banning by saying “hey they do it too” That argument is not very strong but i will say it is typical and expected as was your subsequent ad hominem. let me guess, you are one of those “with us or against us” people? (since we are going leaping to conclusions, ill try my hand at it).

perhaps you dont understand my argument. history is teaching students that which has happened….or at least an attempt to do such to our best ability. censoring that because it may offend people of certain religions (be they christian or muslim) is not only wrong, it’s not conducive to learning from our past.

if you read the article with an open mind (which I realize in your specific case is impossible…and believe me i fully understand you are incapable of this…yet humor me so others can at least understand me) you would realize that it is not a minor issue but really represents something enormous….hiding truths so as to not offend. I thought you would be all for this? Oh no.. you are only for that when it sheds a positive light on your interests. again..understood and typical.

but keep telling yourself everyone that does not agree with censorship and religious people taking over schools’ curriculum are anti christian left wing anti israeli, football hating, communists. it will certainly allow you to sleep easier at night having a good array of imaginary enemies to fight your crusade against. or perhaps you should just try counting sheep..but counting is probably anti christian bigotry….

In your overwrought OP/ production decrying the sins of censorship, you forgot to mention what exactly is being “censored by Texas”.  What exact items are being censored by Texas? Can we answer this please before you start demonizing certain states as “at it again…”? The examples I listed were clear removal of standard books and limitations of school/university speech by left-leaning individuals. What you are whining about is a group of elected state officials discharging their elected duties in setting guidelines on school curricula. Teachers are known for presenting extra-curricular work that they deem important to students, as long as it is not the Bible. When I was in my AP classes in high school, I was exposed to Beckett and Harold Pinter. Both of those seminal 20th century playwrights were not on my state’s curriculum yet  (I asked) yet our English teacher presented them to us. You bringing up this non-issue is intended to demonize Texas whereas liberal censorship is more pervasive than you care to admit or even address.

By the way, when I placed out of history in high school, I think the only mention of Islam in my state-recognized excellent AP American history class was of Iran seizing American hostages as a media-driven centerpiece to the birth of their theocratic state. I agree with you here; I dont think that should be removed from American history texts.

I agree. The big 12 is somewhat overrated. For many years, big 12 ducked out of conference superpowers because it ruins their unjustified and total hype-driven pre-season very high poll rankings. Even when the Big 12 play mid to low level teams from out of conference powers, they do mediocre or out right lose like yesterday.

The same thing can be argued about Boise State. It is a pretty much a joke that Boise State is in the “national title” discussion. Mark May and Philip Folmer as commentators have recently shreded the Boise State mythology. Good for them to speak the daring truth.  Boise state would be a weak under 500 team in the SEC.

Texas county was ordered to return books removed by conservatives from the library …

So now they will consider just closing the library entirely.
