A lot of people are rightfully saying get well soon to him and not poking him even though he might be considered their enemy.

I have to say no matter who is on the opposite side of the Political spectrum, we all have a tendency to well wish when it comes to end of life issues.
Even Juan at Fox stated that though he had many a emotional debate, he wishes him to get well. Sounds like an end lifer issue for him.

What a wonderful man. What wonderful ideas. A true representative of his listeners. An American hero right up there with Alex Jones.

We spend too much money on end of life care in the US, just let it go. It’s not helpful.

Going on a radiology forum to post all this nonsense when you’re not a radiologist, tech, etc, just to post negativity and instigate stuff is extremely unhealthy.

It’s people like you who have an axe to grind for some random reason – maybe you are related to a successful radiologist and are jealous, maybe it’s your neighbor. Maybe your radiologist screwed up a report. Who knows. Obviously you have an issue with our profession.

What worries me is in our current society – it’s people like you who end up taking it too far. Get help

Another Chinese conspiracy! Why, they are even willing to have many Chinese die & depress their own economy in order to bring down Trump! How inscrutable!

Now all they have to do is hack systems to provide Trumps taxes & other documents & give it to Democrats.

Some of the right wing nuts are also claiming they have a silver solution that kills corona virus. Theyll sell it to you for $60 a bottle. If you check right wing watch twitter account you can see the clips.

Also Rush is doing his best to confirm hes a b-hole on his way out.

It is OK to disagree and even strongly disagree with someone’s views, political or otherwise, while still being compassionate about their illness or end of life issues.  Having a sense of one’s death in one’s mouth is one of the most human of things.  I tend to be very compassionate to those on that precipice, and I hope others will be compassionate to me when it is my turn.

From a societal standpoint, I wonder if Rush’s struggle with this will lead towards any movement on a variety of palliative treatments.  Here I’m thinking of medical marijuana as a treatment towards reducing pain and appetite problems.  Particularly since it seems to be better than opiates for many of these purposes.  I would like to see us improve the quality of life of those in end of life care.  Enduring significant pain during this time seems a cruel thing.

Right, left or center, this is still a human being likely facing a terminal diagnosis.  You can say he wasn’t compassionate and doesn’t deserve compassion, but that says more about you than him.

I agree with the last post in hoping that something good can come from this [outside of liberals who espouse compassion for all but are publicly saying how thrilled they are that someone they politically disagree is going to die].  I have a close family member who is stage IV, suffering from pain, but can’t get relief because opiates aren’t helping and they live in a state where medical marijuana is illegal.

Were he my patient I would do everything possible to help him survive, without hesitation, in a New York minute, even if he had no money or insurance, just as every human being deserves.

That said, I find him no humanitarian at all nor willing to advocate the same treatment for others he feels he deserves. He’s spread 3 decades of animus and hatred and got fabulously rich selling hate.

Perlstein gives a pretty good breakdown on the breakdown of the Republicans since Civil Rights stroking racial and “others” animus and the development of and influence of Limbaugh on those topics.

[link=https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/02/17/rick-perlstein-rush-limbaugh-death-legacy/]https://www.washingtonpos…limbaugh-death-legacy/[/link]

Rick Perlstein: Enormously influential. Enormously efficacious. Beginning in 1989, I was listening to Limbaugh when he was just starting as a national figure. I watched his evolution.

What was evident to me right away was his ability to give people a sense that they were part of a community, part of a movement. In the case of politically alienated reactionary white males, they had an ally.

Sargent: Why was this very large white male reactionary audience out there looking for someone to speak to their anger?

Perlstein: Its the basic story: The rise of reactionary populism. People accustomed to being on top culturally, socially, economically were facing an onslaught of liberation movements that were all about giving other people a fair shot at the pie.

The brilliance of the Nixonian new right of the 1970s was that they were able to prospect for grievances on the ground that came out of reaction to the insurgent movements of the 1960s civil rights, abortion, gay rights.

You are actively creating this idea that the people in power are forcing things on you that are taking away your prerogatives, that are weakening your family.

Limbaugh inherited that 1970s mentality on the right: Theres nothing he would say that was abstract or intellectual in any way. It was all extremely visceral: There was this transcendent evil behind the scenes that wanted to destroy you.

It just shows the viciousness of this person, and how badly he deranged our public life: People were literally being taught that nothing liberals could do, nothing Democrats could do, could be anything but a diabolical conspiracy to destroy them.

In the 1990s, not only was Rush Limbaugh contributing his own viciousness; he created a whole media ecology.

Yes, you had Limbaugh saying 12-year-old Chelsea Clinton was indistinguishable from her dog, and that Bill Clinton was a murderer. But you also had G. Gordon Liddy saying that if you run into an ATF agent, you should shoot them in the head, because theyd be wearing body armor.

Sargent: Limbaugh himself picked up the [link=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecMAJUoY9cg&ab_channel=mediamatters4america]birtherism[/link]. Can you talk about how that showed his continued poisoning of conservative politics?

Perlstein: It gets to his whole rhetorical mode of being, which is this idea that theres this phalanx of people on the quote-unquote other side who will stoop to any depth of wickedness to dominate you: Heres this guy whos not even American who wants to dominate you.
Rush Limbaugh captivated dads like mine and created America’s modern fascist aesthetic

Limbaugh co-opted rock-and-roll to sell authoritarianism
To explain the rise of Rush Limbaugh, who died on Wednesday at age 70, in the early 90s, it helps to understand that, in large parts of America at least, he read as a not your grandfather’s buttoned-up Republicanism. He wasn’t cool, exactly, but he appealed to middle-aged Boomers who were still coasting on their image as the generation of Woodstock and “Animal House.” His bumper music was a song by the Pretenders, a bona fide punk band. He often did comedy skits and spoke in the mellifluous tones of an FM radio DJ. He [link=https://twitter.com/MichaelBerube1/status/1362139321071992833]used rock music and humor[/link] to package [link=https://www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2021/02/the-gasbag-of-fascism]vicious racism, homophobia and misogyny as a rollicking good time[/link].

Limbaugh’s legacy will debated in the coming days, mostly between progressives who legitimately hate him and conservatives who are going to pretend he wasn’t a monster, even though his monstrosity is what they liked about him. But what should be beyond dispute is he is the godfather of what could be legitimately called the modern American fascist aesthetic. The aesthetic borrows heavily from the creativity of adventurous, urbane, progressive people, but is remade into the expression of angry white men who are fueled by the loathing of the very people they rip off. It’s how we get “hipster” authoritarians like [link=https://www.salon.com/2018/10/17/gavin-mcinnes-and-the-proud-boys-alt-right-without-the-racism/]Gavin McInnes[/link] or [link=https://www.salon.com/2017/09/27/milos-free-speech-week-was-a-flop-heres-how-to-beat-the-alt-right/]Milo Yiannopoulos[/link], who lure their followers into believing they can feel “cool” while co-opting and then crushing everything that is actually cool.

The good news is, as my personal experience shows, not everyone who feels a personal conflict between right-wing politics and love of rock music goes the way of Trump fans mindlessly jamming to “Rockin’ in the Free World” while ignoring the lyrical content. The “alt-right” that followed Limbaugh’s footsteps in using “dank memes” and pseudo-edgy aesthetics did capture some younger white men for Trump, [link=https://www.cnn.com/election/2020/exit-polls/president/national-results]but 60% of voters under 30 backed Joe Biden[/link]. Authoritarians can ape pop culture, but only to a certain point. Eventually, most people start to see through the ruse.

Florida woman has common sense. This is Nikki Fried the agriculture secretary of Florida. Pretty much sums up the way I look at lowering the flag too.

Lowering to half-staff the flag of the United States of America is a sacred honor that pays respect to fallen heroes and patriots. It is not a partisan political tool. Therefore, I will notify all state offices under my direction to disregard the Governor’s forthcoming order to lower flags for Mr. Limbaugh — because we will not celebrate hate speech, bigotry, and division. Lowering the flag should always reflect unity, not division, and raising our standards, not lowering them. Our flags will remain flying high to celebrate the American values of diversity, inclusion, and respect for all,
