So far it sounds like a political hack-job of a prosecution. Wont go far, cost the taxpayer a ton of money and distract from the real work to be done.

He’s an aggie, and even worse was one of those milkman yell leaders.  There is a transcript of his college coursework floating around the internet. It is embarrassing to think this moron become a political leader in my state.

You can’t separate this case from Texas politics.

It’s all on the surface… Perry did exactly what he said he was going to do:

If the  District Attorney (D) didn’t resign Perry (R) would veto the corruption investigation budget of said DA (D) who Perry wanted to replace with an (R) after her rsignation because the office of the DA (D) had been investigating mostly Texas (R)s.

There’s politics around the investigator who had his US attorney nomination blocked by Texas Republicans.

It’s a hugely policitcal case…… but did he use the power of his office to coerce another public official? Sure sounds like it.  We Perry be convicted? Doubt it.  Will he be a viable candidate in 2016? Almost certainly not.

This is about Perry abusing veto power to try and force a resignation through it; not Boehner

Ill put money on this case being dismissed.  The Donkeys are playing a dangerous game of prosecutorial abuse.  This will backfire on Texas Democrats.

Texas: Judge Refuses to Dismiss Case Against Governor

A Texas judge refused on Tuesday to quash on technicalities two criminal felony indictments for abuse of power against Gov. [link=http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/p/rick_perry/index.html?inline=nyt-per]Rick Perry[/link]. The governors defense team had sought to have the case thrown out, arguing that the special prosecutor, Michael McCrum, was not properly sworn in and that some paperwork was not correctly filed. But a written ruling from District Judge Bert Richardson, who, like Mr. Perry, is a Republican, sided with Mr. McCrum. An Austin grand jury indicted Mr. Perry in August on charges of abuse of official power and coercion of a public servant. His lawyers have also sought to have the charges dismissed on constitutional grounds.

Angela Corey just went straight to go   but
Ferguson there is question of an indictment when it is said any prosecutor can get a ham sandwich indicted
glad the family went to the UN

All the above said… this ruling isn’t on the big constitutional issue.. just a technicality.

But the headline was so perfectly quotable in juxtaposition that I couldn’t resist

Rick Perry Says Hes Mulling Presidential Bid
Former Energy Secretary Rick Perry on Sunday teased a possible 2024 presidential run while declining to support Donald Trumps campaign, becoming the latest onetime Trump appointee to distance himself from the former presidents third presidential bid, [link=https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/14/politics/rick-perry-president-2024-trump-cnntv/index.html]CNN[/link] reports.

Maybe this round Perry will remember which government departments he wants to abolish and exactly what they do especially the Dept of Energy? It is a Department he once “lead” not knowing it also was the department in charge of nuclear weapons. DUH!

[link=https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/18/us/politics/rick-perry-energy-secretary-donald-trump.html]https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/18/us/politics/rick-perry-energy-secretary-donald-trump.html[/link]

When President-elect Donald J. Trump offered Rick Perry [link=https://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/13/us/politics/rick-perry-energy-secretary-trump.html]the job of energy secretary[/link] five weeks ago, Mr. Perry gladly accepted, believing he was taking on a role as a global ambassador for the American oil and gas industry that he had long championed in his home state.

In the days after, Mr. Perry, the former Texas governor, discovered that he would be no such thing that in fact, if confirmed by the Senate, he would become the steward of a vast national security complex he knew almost nothing about, caring for the most fearsome weapons on the planet, the United States nuclear arsenal.
