Powerscribe Findings Mode Hyponyms
Posted by jrawlins_531 on April 29, 2023 at 7:08 pmDoes anyone use the Findings Mode on Powerscribe?
Is it helpful in increasing your speed?
Is there a list of hyponyms to use when setting up a template?
Are there templates with built in hyponyms?
Thanks.donna_912 replied 1 year, 5 months ago 5 Members · 12 Replies -

I use it pretty extensively for ED body work. I set up my own hyponyms, which I recommend. Everyone uses different phrases/terminology. Pretty quick to set up initially. Its an ever evolving process but after a few years most would be impressed with how my findings are sorted into a structured report. It does save me quite a bit of time (now). Unfortunately, macros do not work in findings mode. That would save me tons of time and allow me to use it for a larger variety of exams.

I’ve never been able to get hyponyms to work–and I’ve asked Nuance to help me, and their tech support people said it is a broken part of PS 360, not intended to be used. I have tried but anytime I use the “findings” and click the button to apply, the findings just get inserted at the end of my report.
If you can post a demo, brickydragon, to show the rest of us, that would be appreciated.-
I use it pretty heavily, saving my thumbs.
Midwest: make sure you have the box does not indicate findings UNCHECKED in the fill-in field definition on the template editor. It wont work if that box is checked.
Also each hyponym should be its own line. So the list looks like:
bones
osseous
marrow
etc etc. no commas separating them.-
I do but it is pretty annoying to set up. I probably have like 5-15 entries per hyponym so it works.
I mainly use it for US because the images come in any order.-
Yea, what mrdrsrow said. Also, the claim that hyponyms will make partial matches is false. Splenic will not work for perisplenic and they both need to be present as a hyponym. With some practice its really a time saver if you want a structured report. Free dictation was quicker for me at first but my shifts are long and it was tiring. Now, findings mode is much faster than free dictating.

Thank you all. After years and years of trying, I will give it another try. It’s amazing how these types of boards give more ideas how to work than the actual professionals.

Is it true that macros (are those the same as AutoTexts?) don’t work in findings mode?
Is there any way around this?
How does rScriptor compare with this? (Is this a poor man’s version of rScriptor)?
On a related note, if your practice does not want to use rScriptor, is it possible to purchase and install it for 1 radiologist?
Thanks.-
I cannot get macros to work in findings mode. It’s why I only use it for Chest/abd/pelv and not neuro. I’m not gonna repeat white matter disease 40 times a shift. If anyone knows a fix let me know. I haven’t used rscriptor but from what I’ve heard it looks much better.

If you put your mouse cursor where you want the macro to insert itll still work.

Is there a way to apply findings mode without overwriting what already is in there? (Meaning, if you apply findings more than once ) For example, if you want to add text to a section? I have been trying this with the hyponyms and have had mixed results.

Not that I know of. Ive got the hyponyms down well enough that 85%+ of my exams i fully dictate in the findings mode section. If its a complex exam that will span multiple systems I trash the template and free dictate. I havent had to update my hyponyms in a long time but it was a couple years of tweaking.
