• Job search and board eligibility

I am a currently doing an MRI fellowship but have yet to pass the CORE exam, which I was due to retake in June but got delayed to February. Anyone in a similar situation? Would ANY employer consider hiring someone who’s not board eligible yet or should I just wait until I get my results and pray that I find a decent job then?

Yes, you can get a job without passing the CORE exam.  There may be a verbal or written clause stating that you have to pass the exam and become board eligible/certified by a certain point in time.

Many practice require you to have board certification within 2-3 years after being hired.

Some groups restricts partnership for those without board certification

I started fellowship without passing Core, then passed it shortly after starting.

I think you’re still board eligible even if you flunk your tests.  These days everyone starts work without board certification.

If you graduated from radiology residency, you are “Board Eligible” and will remain so for 6 yrs after your grad date. They have a free letter on their website explaining Board Eligibility to send to future employers and credentialing agencies.

I would still start looking for jobs as the credentialing process can take some time (6+ months). Like IRfellowship said, if you graduated residency then you’re board eligible. Even if you passed the CORE first time you still wouldn’t be certified until after you started the job because you can’t take the certifying exam until 15 mo. after graduating residency.

Start looking at and comparing jobs now and bring it up when the time comes.

Don’t let that test ruin your life any more than it already has.
