This is a pretty clear indication of their strategy.

Radiologists who sell to RP dont seem to understand that they are chattel being bought and sold.

Another highly paid administrative position – funded by skimming professional fees earned by the radiologists under RP control.

The increasing sales jobs is bad for patients and physicians.

Reminds me of couple of M/A schemes some pharmaceutical and medical companies pulled off while back, with repeating purchases of smaller companies with better earning ratios that made the buyer companys numbers look like they were improving their performance like superstars.

Then the axes come, fire bunch of people, overwork the staffs, cut more costs until the earning ratios look great. Then big sales for profits.

Just need some willing suckers, I mean radiologists who can live through tough times. Hey, the retiring partners of radiologists will make money, RP will make money, so its great right??

Dan – you know my feelings on RP (I think all of radiology does). I am just patiently waiting for them to become too heavy to carry their own weight. Patience will prove that radiology belongs in the hands of Physicians (Radiologists) and not in the hands of any business person. I will forever support independent radiology practices!

Sad that radiology professional fees would pay for this garbage.

I would not underestimate radpartners though. I feel like private groups should form some kind of national alliance, for insurance and hospital negotiation, lobbying, economies of scale, etc.

Radpartners is a real big threat at this point.

In my opinion RP is becoming increasingly predatory. They are going to need to grow organically now that they have outlaid so much capital on the Mednax/ vRad acquisition as well as on the multitude of other practices they have acquired. They are desperately recruiting offering salaries of $500,00000 – $600,000.00 to physicians. I don’t fault any physician that works for them, often times people are driven to location due to personal/ family needs. I do however question any practice that sells to them. All those practices that sell are getting is an advance on A/R and they could easily make that same money over time. Besides nobody sells anything worth buying – most practices that try to sell themselves are dealing with other cultural or financial issues (or both) and they view RP as their savior because of fear (founded or not). In any event now that I am done ranting I agree with you. the best solution is for independent radiology practices to come together, to share infrastructure costs, leverage a national footprint when negotiating agreements, support each other through technology all while maintaining their autonomy and remaining fully independent. Sadly that may be more pie in the sky than anything else.

A while back, a number of large groups did form a nationwide relationship to try to leverage their scale and purchasing power – Strategic Radiology. Ironically, some of the largest members subsequently sold to RP or other corporate entities. Not sure if it even still exists.

Its a prime example of something that sounds good and looks good on paper, but individual groups (and individual radiologists within those groups) will always look out for their own best interest. Or at least, what they perceive to be in their own best interest based on a myopic view.

Rad groups are sitting ducks.  They will not come together.  RP is going to eat their lunches.  They will all sell out, especially the old rads.

Hospitals don’t care about the quality, only costs.

As an older rad there is truth to the aforementioned.

Some of the older rads are self interested sobs. The amoral subterfuge is remarkable.

We have great younger partners who are patient. Waiting to take over. I keep telling them, dont be too patient. There is a tipping point for a coup; dont hesitate. Or it may be too late.

I have great faith in our young colleagues. I need good motivated rads taking care of me as a patient. Im on their side.
