So our illustrious commander in chief was recently asked about whether Kim Jong Nam – older half brother of Kim Kong Un was a CIA asset.
Trump said he wouldnt let the CIA develop such assets under his watch.
Google it for yourself if you dont believe this.
In other words, Trump wants to deny himself and our country the best possible intelligence in dealing with Kim Jong Un – in order to not offend Kim Jong Un.
This also cant be a morale booster for any CIA assets which are currently in North Korea – or elsewhere for that matter.

I don’t think it’s far off the mark. After all, TRump never ran and doesn’t today run on policies but on cultural “demographic” changes as explicitly made clear by Laura Ingraham.
In some parts of the country, it does seem like the America we know and love doesnt exist anymore. Massive demographic changes have been foisted upon the American people. And theyre changes that none of us ever voted for and most of us dont like. From Virginia to California, we see stark examples of how radically in some ways the country has changed. Now much of this is related to both illegal, and in some cases, legal immigration that, of course, progressives love.
This is TRump’s message. It is unAmerican.

Trump is a cultural revolutionary, not a policy revolutionary. He operates and is subtly changing America at a much deeper level. Hes operating at the level of dominance and submission, at the level of the person where fear stalks and contempt emerges.
Hes redefining what you can say and how a leader can act. Hes reasserting an old version of what sort of masculinity deserves to be followed and obeyed. In Freudian terms, hes operating on the level of the id. In Thomistic terms, he is instigating a degradation of Americas soul.
We are all subtly corrupted while this guy is our leader. And throughout this campaign he will make himself and his values the center of conversation. Every day he will stage a little drama that is meant to redefine who we are, what values we lift up and who we hate.
The Democrats have not risen to the largeness of this moment.
I don’t fully agree with Brooks’s opinion but I think he’s onto something fundamental. I do agree the Democrats have to start talking about TRump and have to start sharpening their arguments about what’s wrong with TRump and his America instead of attacking each other.

I am loath to share this but I am going to share it anyway. I recently had a discussion with a relative of mine (far left, I consider myself more centrist) and of course it drifted into politics and violence among certain factions. And I am not embellishing. Here were the few take away points I got.
1) Violence against “far right” was justified because “Na–s”. (seriously that was the entire justification)
2) Any “innocent bystanders” caught up in the violence should have known better than to be anywhere near “Na–s” so they had it coming to them as well.
3) Anyone supportive of Trump and GOP or who would dare to vote for them was a racist “white supremacist N–i” (if white) and if they happen to be non-white were merely “insane”.
So, as you can imagine “political discussion” is now officially off the table for any family gatherings. Of course now you can get doxxed and lose your job for saying “the wrong thing”. Yes this is anecdote but I do feel there has been a severe breakdown of civil communication. -

Here’s a simple question, was Lee Atwater a racist? There are many Atwaters swimming in politics today. They don’t fit the racist stereotype. But Atwater was not afraid of using race to spread fear to advance his cause of winning politics. Is that racist? Or just clever? How do you define an Atwater? I personally have no black and white answer because I have many friends who do support Trump but who are not stereotypically “racist” and some have mixed relatives, grandchildren and nephews/nieces. But the question remains, if I support someone who uses race against people of difference races, what is that?
Back to your relative, he (is it a he?) is an ass, to be polite. How old is he? Teenager? College? What sort of life experience and responsibilities has he had? Minimal I have to assume.
I agree with your assessment of a breakdown of civil public discussion. Yet we are managing here on AM not too badly. My personal discussions with friends and acquaintances have been heated but we all remain friends to this day.

I am not interested in the whole right extremist violence vs left extremist violence comparison. I am merely bringing it up in response to “where did all the Trumpers go?” question. The answer is, in my opinion, nowhere, they have gone quiet. The middle has gone quiet.
This relative is middle aged, has a family and good job and college educated and used to be (or so I thought) centrist and we used to have nice political discussions that didn’t end with me being called a racist white nationalist supporter just because I was advocating against all (not just right or left) violence at political demonstrations, but since 2016 has gone completely bonkers. You assumed he, good guess I suppose, his wife was sitting right next to him and absolutely agreed with everything he said at which point his daughter started crying saying she “hated being white” and left the discussion.
If we cannot have a simple discussion without attacking folks as racist or whatever then we are NOT going to have a discussion at all. And that, in my opinion, is where everyone went, they will be voting anyway.

I have no idea about your relatives’ “white guilt” & won’t even try to explain. They might as well have been born on Mars as far as I’m concerned. I have no guilt & never found a reason to apologize for “being so white” as I was once described. But I’ve also been asked if I was a goy by a little old lady in a Jewish Nursing home. I have known a lot of people from different races & we have all always enjoyed each others company and discussions, even in delicate areas.
My daughter-in-law is Hispanic as is my grandson. Some think she and he are “not white” and they are not making a casual observation when they say they believe that. My daughter-in-law and her relatives are too aware that some see them as “not white.” They have made self aware jokes on that subject & they now also know I don’t laugh at those jokes. My grandson will never be raised to feel he has something to explain or apologize about whether it be for his blue eyes or dark hair.

I feel so much reassured with your “some.” It’s only some Republicans who support Trump. Much like Russia, it’s only “some” Russians who believe and support Putin.
All is well then. What can Trump and Putin do with only “some” of the people following them? We only have to worry if it was absolutely 100% of “everyone.” 100%-1 can’t do anything dangerous.

Question still is, the vast majority of Republicans believe & support Trump and his lies and Q & believe the only important thing is not policy but owning the Libs & Democrats. What is the magic number more than zero but less than 100% where belief in reality will become the compelling belief in the GQP? Because were nowhere near that now. With few exceptions you can count on fingers Republicans who oppose the GQP partys beliefs & legislation outlawing people, books, teachings, voting rights & so on.
Not every single Republican is a silly answer. Not every Russian supports Putin but yet Putin has established total rule. Is it majority or minority rule?
