  • Contrast Coverage Moonlighting question

Posted by shannypants70 on July 31, 2019 at 3:20 pm

    Good evening forum goers.

We may be renegotiating our contrast coverage policy/compensation soon.  If you’d be willing, if you could provide what the hourly rate at your program is and in what part of the country you are located that would be very informative.

    Thanks,
    A broke R2

On a related note, has anyone had success setting up third party contrast coverage contacts? Our program does not have many shifts internally.

$55/hr, Northeast. Residents provide preliminary reports on outpatient “stats”. Usually plain films but there’s an occasional outpatient pan scan work up or or CTA PE.

The above numbers seem low, especially the ones that involve reading rather than being there for contrast reactions.

If you guys keep on posting low numbers then your pay will go even lower.  This will serve as propaganda for academic penny pinchers.

ive been trying to find something external as my program only has one location that’s always covered by seniors. Any tips on finding contrast coverage externally? I tried cold calling some MRI centers to no avail 🙁

That’s pretty much your only option. Most inpatient centers have a radiologist onsite 24/7 so they don’t need an add-on resident to babysit machines.

                  $85/hour with one local group
                  $75/hour with another
                  $50/hour with a third
