I have MSK for the entire health system to myself until the 26th.
Full day 7a-7p in-house today and yesterday and overnight pager call all week.
Can work from home X-mas day. If I get my list swept of stats by noonish I should (barring any pages) be able to get lunch with my family.
Had 100 RVUs yesterday on 45-ish MRIs, 10 CTs and 75-80 pfs ….. plus did tumor board and a couple of hip injections.
….
Then off to Punta Cana to kill my liver for New Year 🙂
….
I’ve worked every Christmas since 2000. Atheist, no kids, live local so don’t need to travel. … but this one is a bit insane.

Almost done. Mixed bag of stuff. Off tomorrow. Call (14 hrs or so) Thursday.
Have NYE and NYD off.-
Ended up overstaffed. Finished some QA project that had been waiting for further action.
-
I love how our ER is staffed with 6 extra mid leveled because all the ER docs are off.
So they are allowed to staff with mid-levels, but they require a read from a board certified radiologist in less than 20 minutes after scan. How does that make any sense?
-
Nothing about emergency medicine in this country makes any sense whatsoever
-
^ Yes you can’t make this stuff up.
It seems radiology is clearly the most important department in american medicine moving ahead, if not clear already. -

Worked all day today, and on IR call tonight and all day/night tomorrow. Here’s hoping everyone stays home and doesn’t decide to take their motorcycles out for a Christmas ride.

Ya don’t think any atheists celebrate Christmas? A lot due because of pressure, loneliness, habit, excuse to eat crappy food, etc. 😉
100 RVUs. Ouch. I’m happy doing that in a week.

Federal Gov employee.
I got Christmas Eve off due to executive order. Christmas day is off as well.
-
Yup, Trump awarded all Federal employees Christmas Eve off this year! It’s like the gift that keeps on giving. Most active duty would have off anyway due to a training holiday though.

Merry Xmas!
Worked yesterday, working today, worked last weekend (‘holiday’ weekend since Xmas on Wednesday this year).
We had full staffing yesterday (Xmas eve), but after lunch guy on call usually tells others to take off; I had some things to catch up on so I bounced around 4pm. Had a very nice Xmas eve dinner with GF, my kids, and her kids (all adults).
Today (Xmas) will be like a weekend call day, roughly 8am to 5pm. I’ll probably take a couple of hours to go have lunch with GF. Typically, I’ll stay later when on call and pick up some extra $ (internal moonlighting), but today I’m kinda tired and will likely go home at 5.
After my kids stopped believing in Santa Claus and especially after I got divorced, I usually ask to work Xmas. I’m not religious at all and Xmas is usually one of the slowest days of the year; much prefer to work winter holidays over summer holidays (with all their attendant car/boat/motorcycle/ATV trauma). My preference to work Xmas is much appreciated by the younger partners with kids/families.
I wouldn’t say I have full blown SAD (seasonal affective disorder) but December can be a pretty bad month for me so I’d rather be working than sitting at home ruminating. Don’t like to travel around the holidays due to the congestion and also possibility of foul weather. I love my family but, having experienced plenty of holiday drama due to one of my sister’s histrionics, I’m happy by myself. So anyway, this December I’ve only had 3 days off (don’t worry, I had plenty of time off earlier in the year and asked to have it this way) and will be glad when New Year’s rolls around. Really, really looking forward to a week in St. Lucia towards the end of January.

And well done all of those allowing others to have the holiday off by offering to work. Good will toward all.

Huge blizzard overnight here in CLE with bitter cold and gusts over 60MPH … better but still nasty this morning.
The dog won’t go outside to pee. But on the up side, I’m on call today and I had the lists cleared in 40 minutes … lowest number of cases ever.
And so far we still have power so I can watch the Browns game this afternoon. Merry Christmas!-

Deleted UserDecember 24, 2022 at 7:50 amOn all weekend, all from home unless theres an esophagram for food bolus, or abscess drainage. Insufficient staff for any other intervention, silver lining I guess. Same wind/snow. But my dog is Husky mutt. So cant get him to come in.
18 and 20 yo lads are home, taking turns getting the old 4 cyl manual Tacoma stuck in drifts out in the woods, and pulling it out with the tracked UTV last night. Lots of ham today, and bonfire tonight.-
Today is considered a regular work day by the hospitals with outpatients scheduled, etc.

Yes, coldest I can remember ever being in, with wind chill, we are down to -15-20. Amazing that deer/birds etc can survive this….Surprised they are still playing the game! Guessing some high-tech thermals!
Merry X-mas/Happy Holidays!

Working another Xmas. So far seems even slower than other’s I’ve worked. Somewhat on the edge of the arctic blast but still lows below 0F. Propane tank was filled last week, split almost 3 cords of wood earlier this year, and the backup generator had routine maintenance in November; barring a tornado or a rogue nuke, I think I’ll make it, LOL. I remember last Xmas I was tooling around in my (red) convertible with a Santa Claus hat on; certainly not this year.
Don’t bust through snow drifts myself but looking down the hill from my house, it looks like my neighbor has been out in his pasture since the snow. My guess is that he’s been working checking his fences; too cold to run his cattle and the snow is covering the forage anyway.
Happy holidays!

I did the math … I think this is my 23rd consecutive year of Christmas call.
Lists are *very* light. I’m reading a smattering of MR and PF while listening to the Vince Guaraldi trio Charlie Brown Christmas … as close as I get to a tradition.
Looking out at a raging and angry Lake Erie from my home office window. Wind has backed down a lot and the worst of the cold is over (it will be a high of around 13 today)
mrs_dergon and I took a pass on any gifts (we’re giving each other the gift of “dream house” for every x-mas, birthday, and anniversary for the next decade 😉 ) … just treating it like a normal call weekend.
-
For some reason that description made me recall the Raiders – Browns playoff game about 40 years ago in arctic conditions.

The cardiac kids were special. Should have gone to the SB. Ultimately, Sipe had a weak arm. Cockoft couldnt kick extra points, which was the equivalent of a 25 yard field goal back then. Sorry to even bring up the kickers name!!!
That day belongs up there in Cleveland sports hell along with Jose Mesa blowing the world series, the fumbles of the late 80s, losing Lebron the first time, Willie Mays catch in 1954. Ten cent beer night wasnt hell, but embarrassing PR.-
It made the ‘Cleveland sports curse’ a plausible conjecture.
I personally sports events are more compelling and memorable when played in harsh conditions, not the climate controlled indoor stadiums common now.
