  • CT PO CONTRAST

Posted by cmassoll_718 on October 13, 2020 at 10:52 am

Nursing at our hospital is stating they cannot give po contrast for CT on the floors without a specific order for same – i.e., a medication order distinct from the CT order. Has anyone encountered this and how has it been handled ?  Thanks for any advice.

Yes, I have encountered that type of work avoidance strategy before. Its right until you tell them that its now someone elses job to give the PO contrast and they’ll file a grievance before you are even done talking.

Are you guys on EPIC. Could probably get your epic people to link a separate contrast order to any CT with PO contrast order.

Positive oral contrast really isn’t necessary unless there is a specific indication. Consider not using it
