  • Any MRI Safety Gurus here?

Posted by Unknown Member on November 11, 2020 at 11:52 am

I did an MRI fellowship over a decade ago and know more than most, but my group recently asked me to play a more active role in MRI Safety.

I’m looking for the best resources for MRI Safety education for a radiologist, whether textbook – I’m okay reading something cover to cover – or a set of journal articles or an MRI Safety Conference on video/stream, or all of the above.

Just looking for the highest yield material(s) for a radiologist and not waste my time. Looking for recommendations from someone who knows a lot about MRI Safety.

Our MRI technologists who are interested in MRI Safety have recommended the course by Dr. Emmanuel Kanal

Looks like there is one coming up soon which you can still register for:

Not sure it’s worth the fee – given that it will be through Zoom – but I have heard that this is a very comprehensive review.

+1 You will also get an MRMD/MRSO certification.  It’s given virtually now.

When I started training, some still called it nuclear magnetic resonance/NMR.
            The “nuclear” scared people.
I know a some safety tips; like don’t bring an O2 tank into the room; seen it twice; it aggressively sought equilibrium in the core.

I have the unfortunate pleasure of being our groups MRI safety officer.

              I recommend Bill Faulkner.

Where does it say that the Kanal Course Nov 15-18 is given virtually / Zoom?
          I didn’t see that.

If I can take that course without travelling to Florida, I think I’ll do it.

Kanal’s style isn’t for everyone, but the content is great. It or its equivalent should honestly be required for anyone involved with MR.

Is there a (preferably short) text book that covers what Kanal covers in his MRI Safety course? I attended several years ago and would like a refresher or a reference text if possible.

                    Thanks.
