  • Acceptable ways to express interest to a program?

Posted by Zuka on November 8, 2020 at 10:30 pm

I’m a PGY3 Internal Medicine resident applying to radiology programs this year (yes I know I’ll be a forever resident, and I’m aware many programs will balk at reduced funding. I’m dead set on radiology.)

While I’m applying broadly, I have a pretty short list of 5 programs that I would be absolutely thrilled to attend.

I’ve been out of the application game for a while, and I’m curious if there are any acceptable ways outside of ERAS of indicating interest to a program.

Thank you for any thoughts you have on the matter!

If you have any interviews at any of your desired programs you are applying to I would ask if you could come for an in-person visit to get to see the department and residents.

Network ….. do you know anyone in the radiology department at your target institutions?

If so… reach out to them early.  If they can reach out to the program director that’s even better.

Now is the time to cash in on relationships you have built.

If you have no existing relationships then I would reach out to the PD and see about an in-person visit or mini rotation (I know that’s tough while you are active in a current residency)
